Life without a camera

Arrrgh its well and truly dead and I have sooo many photos I need to take!

The stupid shutter slider got jammed on my digital a couple of weeks ago and because there was a photo that needed taking I jammed it back across (thinking it was only dirt stuck in the grooves) and well...whaddya know. It killed it.

The bunting is still on the wall waiting for a photo, the kids are growing faster, I havent managed a shot of my SS swap yet and I cant start my pockey money making plan without taking a pic for advertising.

Better start saving for a camera...

Gas Leak

And no...it wasnt Rodney ;-)

Last night our house started smelling of gas so we had to ring the gas company, turn our mains off and open windows. They werent here to fix it until this morning which I find pretty slack, the man that was meant to do the job rang me sounding a bit sloshed and gave me a number for a gasfitter.

Not to mention one spark could have set the gas off.

They turned up this morning and attached the reader to the meter and it instantly registered as a gas leak. The valve on the gas meter was faulty so it couldnt check for leaks and the valve on the underfloor heater wasnt attached properly so its been leaking for a long time. Judging by the corrosion he guessed at 6mths to a year. Probably accounts for my high gas bill. Hummm...

All fixed now and thanking our lucky stars we are all still alive. Natural gas suffocates very quickly so thank goodness it was only a slow leak.

Never take your lives for granted, it doesnt take much to end them.

Merry Christmas :)

"Manaia"

Ive had these wooden letters since Manaia was 2. Shes 4 now and I finally found a great idea of how to use them. Painting to me never turns out the way I like it and fabric covering would be fiddly. So I used Tinkerbell Scrapbooking Paper :D Perfect for the 4 yr old fairy in my life.

Salt Dough Decorations

You know how most crafty things start out being fun because its something new and then ends up a tad tedious? Hence the many things alot of people call WIPS...

Well...Manaia and I started these Salt Dough Decorations about 2 weeks ago and we only just got around to painting them. They turned out to be really great and original, the perfect decoration for our Xmas tree (fake of course...) The painting part was the most fun :D 3 years old have so much imagination.

The Recipe to make Salt Dough Decorations:

1 cup Salt
1 cup Flour
1/2 cup water (may need more or less so dont add it all at once)

Combine and knead on a floured surface until it forms a nice soft dough.
Roll out to desired thickness, cut out your favourite shapes and dont forget to poke a hole in them with a straw so you can hang them on your tree :)
Then line a baking tray with tinfoil and bake them for 10mins at 180 degrees.
Leave on the tray in a warm area for upto 3 days (turn daily) until shapes are nice and hard.
Then paint and enjoy :)

Here I am

So after much deliberating Ive decided to make myself a blog.
Im hopeless at keeping a diary so hopefully with my love of the internet this blog will change all that...hahaha

Kahurangi Skies came from the simple idea of using one of my daughters middle names and my absolute fave colour - blue. It also combines the love I have of the big blue sky. A blue sky can really make me smile and make me feel pure serenity.

Mostly I plan to blog about some of my amateur photography (bare with me haha), crafts I complete and general daily blah :)
